There's a few cool events today!

  • It's the last day of Windycon, with a full slate of panels, including a Chi-SF discussion of Dragonflight!
  • The American Writers Museum is hosting an in-person & online event for the Best American Science Fiction Writing, with Rebecca Roanhorse, John Joseph Adams, and Veronica Roth. More details here.
  • City Lit Books is hosting a virtual book launch for Lavie Tidhar's Neom, in conversation with Daryl Gregory.
That's about it for special events we currently have on the calendar, but there's plenty of book clubs going strong: check out the Upcoming Events Page for more!

Chicon is Here!

It's this week!

The World Science Fiction Convention is in Chicago, with 5+ days of panels, talks, performances, and events, with the Hugo Awards Ceremony on Sunday!

Check out the Online Program to see what's going on! You can still register to attend, in person or online, and there are a number of off-site Fringe Events that anyone can attend.

If you're visiting Chicago for Chicon and want to see some other sights while you're here, I've put together this Bookish Tour Guide built around indie bookstores and other literary attractions.

Depending on the intensity of my schedule, I hope to do some more Positron coverage of the con, but we'll see!

Chicon Updates and More!

Hello, readers! Outside of calendar maintenance, I obviously haven't been doing too much with Positron since the beginning of the pandemic. (And if you happened to miss it, you might want to check out the big giant Book Club Report I did back in the early summer of 2020.)

However! I'm planning to dust off Positron a little bit, since Worldcon will be here in September. I'm helping out a little bit with Chicon 8, and I'd like to use Positron for some unofficial, supplemental Chicago info.

That said, here are a few of the bigger events for the upcoming months. For individual book clubs and author events, check the calendar!

  • 4/30: Indie Bookstore Day! Bookstores all across the greater Chicagoland will be doing some cool stuff; it's a great time to go visit a few. Read more on IndieBound, and check out the Chicago-specific deals at ChiLovesBooks.
  • 5/7: DePaul Pop Culture Conference: A Celebration of Sherlock Holmes. DePaul's Pop Culture cons are lovely, free, and welcoming events, the perfect mix of scholarly and fannish energy. You can check out details on their site.
  • 5/27-5/30: Wiscon is back at it, with their first in-person meeting since 2019. Just up in Madison. Details here.
And it's not too long until Chicon: September 1-5.

I'll have some more Worldcon material soon, stay posted!
